We are committed to supporting local and, sometimes, further afield causes.

Some requests are posted in by local people who already know how The London Fancy Box involves itself in the local community; other requests are put forward by members of the LFB staff. All letters, emails and requests are taken seriously, however different or unusual they may be. They are all looked at by the Fund Committee and decided fairly upon. This is on-going and involved; we are committed to help our local community where and whenever we can.

Over the last few years we have been proud to support various causes. One such cause was the Dover One Step Ahead team, who we backed, in their exciting and thrilling fundraising event. This event not only raised money for Help the Heroes but also gave 2 local young people a once in a lifetime experience of team and personal achievement that they will never forget.
Help for heroes PDF Download

Summer 2012 saw one of our directors and his son taking part in the London to Brighton bike ride. We were glad to put money towards their fundraising for the British Heart Foundation. Also in June, a group of 20 fit(ish!) London Fancy Box ladies took part in the Race for Life, held in Folkestone. So, of course, our community fund was able to put forward a sum of money to kickstart their sponsorship.

Just last month, another of our directors and his wife helped to raise money for the restoration and upkeep of local churches and chapels by taking part in the Ride and Stride event. Ride and Stride is an annual event held nationally but organised in Kent by the Friends of Kent Churches whereby people are sponsored to visit as many churches as possible in one day, either by bike or walking. We made a very generous donation towards this cause.

London Fancy Box are determined to continue our support of our local community. We are happy to accept requests from anyone, whatever the cause. Please do get in touch either by email or write to us at The London Fancy Box Co Ltd, Poulton Close, Dover, Kent, CT17 0XB.

SUPPORT: Christopher Lawson hands over gardening vouchers to Susan Proudfoot

Mum-of-one Susan Proudfoot, 37, first brought the idea into the open last year with fellow organisers Karen Capell, of Maxton, and Kerry D’age.

The plan is to create a sensory garden, a Roman herb garden, history trail, planting beds and a vertical growing area to avoid damaging the area where a Roman bath is believed to be buried.

There will be reading and “safe” areas in the garden for youngsters visiting the library or museum at
the discovery centre.

Former National Trust assistant countryside ranger Mrs Proudfoot said: “Lots of work has been going
on behind the scenes. The (district) council wants to see the designs we have and they are happy
we have got Groundworks Kent and Medway to project manage it.”

London Fancy Box CEO Christopher Lawson said: “In line with our policy of setting aside a regular amount of our income to support the local community we at the London Fancy Box Co are very pleased to be supporting this project. We encourage requests from local individuals and organisations. All letters, e-mails and requests are taken seriously however different or unusual they may be. In this case the amount we are giving is not just to support a local initiative but the money is being spent with a local business so hopefully the benefit to the community will be even greater.”

Here at London Fancy Box we are passionate about the next generation and making sure that we secure a future for our children. As part of our community fund initiative we have been able to give to some worthy causes.

Did you know that unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death in children aged between 5 and 19 years old? In late 2011, the Metropolitan Police asked us to support the Children’s Safety Education Foundation. CSEF is a national charity whose mission is to give children the skills needed to allow them to make informed decisions when faced with danger so as to reduce child victims. We were happy to sponsor 5 local primary schools in order to provide them with bespoke educational packages focusing on the skills needed by young children to keep safe in difficult circumstances. These packages include a uniquely developed multimedia training programme that fits neatly into the Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education syllabus.

Dover Young Enterprise was supported and personally championed by our Financial Director, Mr Lawson. Young Enterprise’s mission statement is “to inspire and equip young people to learn and succeed through enterprise.” Every year Sixth Form students around the country take part in the Young Enterprise competition where they are tasked in setting up and running their own company over the year. They then have the opportunity to present their company and win various prizes. Mr Lawson’s support resulted in him being one of the judges in the local area final, which was held at Dover Girls’ Grammar School in April. London Fancy Box believe that not all support has to be financial. Quite often time is just as valuable.

We were asked to be involved in helping create a dipping pool and environmental project for a local primary school. They will be using the facility for practical science lessons. It’s great for the children to get out of the classroom and be able to see science happening in front of them. This project will used by children for many years to come. We have donated an amount to support the scheme and will continue to be involved as the project evolves.

London Fancy Box are always on the lookout for local projects to support. If you know of any schools, clubs or organisations that would benefit from our help please do get in touch either by email or write to us at The London Fancy Box Co Ltd, Poulton Close, Dover, Kent, CT17 0XB.

As part of our community fund project London Fancy box have been making charitable donations to local sports clubs and organisations. Sport can be a way to engage young people and instill in them self-confidence and the drive to succeed. During this summer’s London 2012 Olympic games we have seen how sport can bring local communities, and the nation, together. We see supporting sport as an important cause that we are proud to champion.

We have donated to both the Thanet Colts and Dover and Deal District Football Team’s under 14’s sides so that each team member has been kitted out with smart new team jackets. The Dover and Deal footballers have got top spec rain jackets to keep them warm and dry while training and the Thanet Colts boys and girls have some smart printed graphics on their new jackets.

Deal Minnows junior sea angling club is self-funded and don’t charge their members a subscription. We have given financial support to Deal Minnows so that underprivileged youngsters can have their own fishing equipment and take part in this enjoyable and sociable sport. They are grateful of any support that can be offered to them so if anyone has some spare time and would be interested in volunteering do get in touch.

Cobbes Meadow is a riding school for the disabled just outside Canterbury. We are proud to say that we have sponsored a pony for a year. Cobbes Meadow is entirely run by volunteers and funded by donations. They are a worthy cause as they provide horse riding and carriage driving lessons to children and adults with learning difficulties and physical disabilities. This enables the riders to gain confidence and make new friends.

We hope to continue supporting local sport so if you know of a team or organisation that deserves support please feel free to let us know either by email or write to us at The London Fancy Box Co Ltd, Poulton Close, Dover, Kent, CT17 0XB.
